Gardening on a rainy day

Today is it absolutely bucketing down outside and is FREEZING COLD. A nice day if you are a dairy cow but not if you are a group of kids!  We put the rest of the group to work on some self-regulated learning (the weather is  also not good for building skate ramps and such).

What to do....what to do.  we got the girls onto the drill, drilling holes in gumboots for our succulent area. Caitlyn, Emily, Aisling, Juliet and Gabby were in their element.

Here the girls are potting the gumboots with the cacti and succulent mix. Thanks to Toby and George who also helped but were a little camera shy.

Gardening Group

We worked hard spreading  pea straw around the gardens.

We put down some of the year three's mosaics
and sorted them around five tyres for succulents by room 5.

We mixed (very stinky) bokashi, leaves,
wood chips and pea straw to make compost.

These tyres mark where we're going to
put fruit trees around the scooter track.
Here we are digging out some swan plants to plant in the butterfly garden.

Cross country

The rain stayed away on Tuesday May 17th for the annual Cross Country event hosted by Lauriston School. We all piled in cars or the bus (the less said about the popped wheel the better) and headed on down to the course with butterflies partying hard in many stomachs. We planted ourselves under our flag. Look how many of us there are!

Here are a few pictures of us BEFORE our event. Look how happy and excited we are. Most of us are even sitting up! Amazing.

 Go Maggie!

Here comes the winner  of the Year 6 girls' race...HANNAH HAYES! Well done Hannah.

AFTER the race. Note the horizontal position of some!

Friday Sport

On Fridays we have our sport option. Mr Straight and Mrs Robinson take a rugby group and Miss Leonard and Mrs Warburton take the netball group. In each group there are "experts" and those that have never played the sport before - this means that our experts get to share their skills and knowledge with the rest of the group.

We can't tell who these people are but it looks like fun!

Fergus, Cooper, Charlie and A.J practise their chest passes. Silver Fern call up any day now chaps!

Floyd, Caitlyn and Hunter showing off some skills

Last Friday the rugby group had a visiting expert Brenton Connell who came to share his coaching expertise with the kids. Thanks for giving up your time Brenton to help us out.

Nice pass to the face Victoria! Our visiting expert Brenton.

Sienna and Paige try out for the Black Ferns

Sam and Steffi in the thick of it.

Cross Country Training

We have our Cross Country on May 17th so we have been training on a daily basis. We all come together first to do some stretching and limber up.  Year 5 students must run 2 km and Year 6 have to run 2 km also. We have been talking about cross country strategies such as pacing ourselves and leaving a little bit in the tank for a sprint finish.   As usual it's held at Lauriston School.
